Join Our Faculty

The three types of faculty membership in the Nelson Institute are: (1) Faculty, (2) Governance Faculty, and (3) Executive Committee.

Basic faculty appointments in the institute are consistent with UW-Madison Faculty Policies and Procedures, which allows a faculty member to be associated with a department without governance rights or a continuing departmental commitment.

Members of the Nelson Institute's Governance Faculty and Executive Committee have stronger ties and greater responsibilities to the institute. See Organization.

A UW-Madison faculty or staff member who wishes to join the Nelson Institute Faculty should submit a letter stating the nature of her/his interest and a current curriculum vitae to the institute director, who will forward it to the institute's Executive Committee for action at its next scheduled meeting. Letters should be addressed to:

Director
Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies
550 North Park Street, 122 Science Hall
Madison, WI 53706-1491

To submit a request by e-mail, send it to the Director's Office.

Members of the Nelson Institute Faculty serve renewable three-year terms. They may serve on standing committees that allow their participation but are not required to do so.
