John Kutzbach, 1937-2021
CCR sadly announces the passing of John Kutzbach on January 29, 2021. John was a pioneer in climate research, and served as CCR Director from 1970 to 2002. John will be missed.

Carbon Cycling
Earth's thermostat is regulated by natural and anthropogenic changes to atmospheric greenhouse gases. Understanding these changes requires unraveling intimately related feedbacks among the atmosphere, ocean, and biosphere.

Climate Impacts and Vulnerability
CCR is an active participant in the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts, developing statistically and dynamically downscaled climate projections for Wisconsin and the broader region to guide vulnerability assessments and the formation of effective adaptation strategies.

Climate Dynamics
CCR's climate dynamicists use state-of-the-art earth system models and data to understand the causes of past, present, and future variations in regional and global climate.

Oceanography and Limnology
CCR's oceanographic and limnological research ranges from the influence of the global ocean on Earth's temperature change.

Past Climates
Research into the natural and human drivers of past climate changes in the Earth system over centuries to millennia, and the effect of past climate change on ecosystems and societies.

Surface Atmosphere Feedbacks
Research on the exchange of moisture, energy, momentum, and gases between the dynamic land surface and overlying atmosphere, and their effects on regional climate.
